A September Reflection

Fifteen years have passed

fear and anger have won

as we live lives inward

hiding, living paranoid lives

darkness covers all

turning neighbor into enemy.

We fail to see the light

of love, of grace, of hope

like ravening wolves

we tear apart the carcass

of the corpse that was living.

Terror has won, the battle done

we build walls instead of bridges

relationships reduced by hate

as it boils away any humanity.

God seeks, groping in the dark,

sweeping the floor, walking miles

wanting to take our hand

to show us the way to peace

of a love so deep and true.
